FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The U.S. Army is proud to announce its partnership with The Grid Esports in Fayetteville. The Grid is a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that offers a gaming experience like no other venue in a five-state radius. The Grid is set to open on October 1 and will hold its Grand Opening event on October 9-11. The venue will feature 36 PC gaming stations, 14 console stations and have safety and health protocols in place adhering to local and federal guidelines. Local U.S. Army Recruiters will be supporting this venture through sponsoring tournaments, hosting local events, and supporting community outreach efforts.
In 2018 U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Fort Knox, Kentucky began to recruit and field a team of dedicated eSports athletes from their ranks of Active Duty and Reserve Soldiers. This team represents the U.S. Army in competitions across the nation and has shown Army leaders how gaming can connect to young people and show them a side Soldiers they may not expect. This team has been able to connect a younger audience to the idea of serving in the U.S. Army and finding a future as an eSports athlete.
“There is so much more to serving in the U.S. Army than what you see on television or ironically see in video games. There are over 150 career fields you can serve in the U.S. Army that can allow anyone a career after they serve,” said Capt. Matthew Webber, commander, Fort Smith Recruiting Company. “With the addition of the U.S. Army eSports Team we are able to show the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math as being a gamer requires hand-eye coordination, quick reactions, and problem-solving.”
